One of Oregon's most photographed swimming holes — a strikingly clear, spring-fed turquoise pool on the McKenzie River with no visible inlet, fed entirely by underground springs. Warnings
Water temperature stays around 37-40F even in August; cold shock and hyperventilation are the leading cause of trouble here, not the rocks. Footing on the rim is slick basalt. Depth is deceptive from above.
Access
Reach via the McKenzie River Trail from Trailbridge Reservoir (about 2 miles one-way) or the shorter, steeper Tamolitch access from the upper trailhead. No vehicle access to the pool itself.
Best conditions
Summer only, and even then the water is dangerously cold — cold-water shock is the primary risk, not the jump itself.
